Fatcheric, Spinney Earn NJCAA, Regional Academic Recognition

Fatcheric, Spinney Earn NJCAA, Regional Academic RecognitionSpartan men's bowler Josh Fatcheric (Weedsport, NY) has been named to the 2009-2010 NJCAA Academic All-American team and the NJCAA Region III All-Academic team. Fatcheric finished first in Singles at the NJCAA Nationals hosted by Erie CC in Buffalo, NY in March. He has maintained a 3.60 in his Math & Science degree at CCC.

Stefanie Spinney (Auburn, NY) was also named to the NJCAA Region III All-Academic Team. Spinney was a 3-sport participant in soccer, bowling and golf for the Spartans in 2009-10. She has maintained a 3.58 overall GPA in the Business Administration degree program.

Spartan's May Heading to NJCAA Golf Nationals

For the second consecutive season, Cayuga CC's Ryan May has qualified and will represent the Spartans in the 2010 NJCAA Golf National Championships. May followed up his 81 on Monday with an 80 on the rain-soaked Robert Trent Jones Course at Cornell University on Tuesday. He was one of only a handful of players in the field to better his score on Day 2 of the tournament and his 161 total was tied for 4th overall in the Region III Tournament. For his efforts he was also named to the NJCAA All-Region III golf team for the 2010 season. May will compete in the NJCAA Nationals hosted by Jamestown Community College at Chautauqua Golf Club on June 7-10, 2010.

 

Golf Team Qualifies for Regionals

The Spartan golf team will be competing at the NJCAA Region III Championships on Monday May 17 and Tuesday May 18 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University (hosted by TC3). Sophomore Ryan May will lead the Spartans as the #2 ranked golfer in the field of over 50 golfers. Sophomore Shawn Patterson hopes to build on his Mid-State Athletic Conference third place finish two weeks ago. Freshmen Jordan Mercado and Nick Bolak are the remaining qualifiers for the Spartans.

 

May Wins Medalist Honors at Jefferson

May Wins Medalist Honors at JeffersonSpartan golf standout Ryan May shot a low-round of 75 at the Jefferson Community College Cannoneer Invitational at Watertown Golf Club. May's round was three strokes better than next highest place finisher. He was one under par on the course's front side and finished 4-over on the back nine. May is currently ranked #2 overall in NJCAA Region III golf with a 77.5 strokes per round average.





 

Congratulations to Caitlyn Dillard: Named to the NJCAA Women's Basketball Division III 2010 All-America First Team

Congratulations to Caitlyn Dillard: Named to the NJCAA Women's Basketball Division III 2010 All-America First TeamCongratulations to Caitlyn Dillard from the Spartan's women's basketball team who was named to the NJCAA Women's Basketball Division III 2010 All-America First Team. Dillard, a sophomore in 2009-10, led the nation in scoring with a 24.5 points per game average for the second straight season. She also became the all-time career leading scorer at Cayuga this season. Only 20 players nation-wide were honored with this award and only 2 other players from the region earned this status. She was also named as a NJCAA Region III Division III Player of the Year and Mid-State Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Dillard helped lead the Spartans to the NJCAA Region III Finals this past season. She was a 3rd Team NJCAA All-American in 2008-09 where she also led the nation in scoring with a 23.8 points per game average. She has made a verbal commitment to the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore to continue her academic and playing career on a basketball scholarship.

 

Matt Janusz Bowls Perfect 300 Game for Spartans

Cayuga CC's Matt Janusz (Port Byron, NY) rolled a perfect 300 game at the NJCAA Region III Bowling Tournament at Pin-o-Rama Lanes in Utica on Saturday. Janusz started the event with 14 straight strikes which was hosted by Mohawk Valley CC. The Spartans had a great showing in their first bowling regional competition and will head to the NJCAA National Invitational in Buffalo on March 4-6, 2010 hosted by Erie CC.

Congrats to Matt on his perfect game and to the rest of the Spartan bowlers listed here who participated in last weekend's regionals: Nick Bolak, Josh Fatcheric, Matt Janusz, Stefanie Spinney, Jeff Tonzi and Sarah Wild.
