Cayuga Grad Wins Sheriff's Scholarship

DATE: 08-05-2003

Justin Leszczynski of Auburn, a 2003 graduate of Cayuga Community College who plans a career in law enforcement, has received special encouragement from Cayuga County Sheriff Robert Outhouse. Sheriff Outhouse recently presented Leszczynski with a $500 New York State Sheriffs? Association Scholarship to continue his studies toward a four-year degree.

Leszczynski earned an associate in applied science (AAS) degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science at Cayuga in May. He will transfer to the State University at Albany or SUNY College at Brockport this fall to pursue a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

“Justin is just the type of student we had in mind when we started our scholarship program,” said Peter R. Kehoe, counsel and executive director of the NYSSA. “Justin has let nothing deter him in his pursuit of his goals, and he exhibits all the qualities we look for in our scholarship recipients. The New York State Sheriffs? Association is proud to recognize and reward Justin for his efforts.”

The $500 award is one of 32 granted by the association throughout the state. Of these, one scholarship is awarded at each community college in the state. Recipients are chosen for academic excellence and a demonstrated desire to enter a career in criminal justice or a related field. Leszczynski is the 14th Cayuga Community College graduate to win an NYSSA scholarship.
