Emmy-Winning Oz Expert to Talk at Cayuga CC

Emmy Award?winning producer/writer John Fricke will talk about Judy Garland, The Wizard of Oz, and his life cultivating their legend, at Cayuga Community College on Friday , November 4, at 11:00. The free presentation in the student lounge of the Auburn Campus will be open to students and the public.

Fricke is a renowned expert on singer-actress Garland and her enduring movie classic of the journey to the Emerald City with the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. He has authored four books; produced and worked on more than a dozen network, cable TV, and home video documentaries; overseen scores of compact disc, DVD, and VHS special-edition film and soundtrack projects; and appeared in such media venues as NBC's Today show, Entertainment Tonight, CNN, and National Public Radio. Fricke won Emmy Awards in 2004 and 1997 and was a 1996 Grammy Award nominee.

In his talk at Cayuga, the author and historian will trace his career from five-year-old fan to McCormick Scholar in journalism at Northwestern University to leading consultant for Oz and Garland products?proof, he claims, of the lyric from Garland's Wizard anthem, “Somewhere over the Rainbow”: “the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.”
