3 Cayuga CC Students Win SUNY Chancellor's Award

DATE: 04-19-2006

Three students from Cayuga Community College were awarded the 2006 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence on April 10 in Albany. They were among 270 students from 62 SUNY campuses honored by John R. Ryan, Chancellor of the State University of New York, for superior academic achievement and significant contributions to their campus or local community.

The Cayuga recipients were Kristen Paczkowski and Christopher Wiley, both of Auburn, and Julie Tucker of Skaneateles. The Chancellor's Award recognizes students who attain not only high grades but also accomplishments in leadership, athletics, community service, the arts, or careers.

“Recipients of this year's awards have excelled academically and, in many cases, far exceeded even their own expectations in their pursuit of higher education and community involvement,” said Chancellor Ryan. He gave each recipient a framed certificate and a medallion to wear at commencement ceremonies.

Each year, campus presidents establish a selection committee, which reviews exemplary members of their college communities who are graduating. Nominees are then forwarded to the Chancellor's Office and are subject to a second round of review. Finalists are then recommended to the Chancellor to become recipients of the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
