DATE: 05-09-2006

Cayuga Community College students Antonia Scollan of Auburn and Dean Stanic of Johannesburg, South Africa, received the 2006 SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award on May 1 at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York. They were among 70 student-athletes selected for the award from 28 of the 64 campuses in the State University of New York. The honorees represented 19 different sports at the Division I, Division III and NJCAA levels.

The Scholar Athlete award recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement. It recognizes “the hard work and dedication our student athletes put forth in classrooms and on the fields, courts and courses where they compete throughout the year,” said SUNY Chancellor John R. Ryan in conferring the awards. “I commend the recipients as well as their coaches for this extraordinary achievement.”

Scholar Athletes are nominated by athletic directors at their level of play, and must maintain a grade point average of 3.64 or higher out of a possible 4.0. Scollan was also named a 2005 first team NJCAA All-American in women's lacrosse, and Stanic was named a 2005 first team NJCAA All-American in men's soccer.
