"Wizard of Oz" Wizzes to Speak at Cayuga CC

DATE: 10-02-2008

Two authors noted for their works on the lore of the Wizard of Oz will speak at Cayuga Community College on Wednesday, October 8, at 11:00 a.m., at a free public event in the Student Lounge on the Auburn campus. The college's Humanities Division will present John Fricke and Michael Patrick Hearn in a discussion of the 1900 L. Frank Baum book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the 1939 Wizard of Oz film adaptation starring Judy Garland, and the classic story's impact on popular culture. Fricke, a 2004 Emmy award winner, is considered a leading authority on the Oz film and on Garland, and Hearn is an expert on the original Oz book and its author. Their panel discussion will be moderated by Cayuga professor Susan Wolstenholme, who has edited The Wonderful Wizard of Oz for the World's Classic Series of Oxford University Press.
