Free Public Discussion Series: The Glass Castle
The 2008 Cayuga Reads book selection, The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, will be the topic of a series of free public discussion groups at Cayuga Community College during October. The public is invited to participate at the following forums:
- Wednesday, October 15, Fulton campus, 11:00 a.m. - noon
- Friday, October 17, Auburn campus library, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
- Tuesday, October 21, Auburn campus library, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 22, Auburn campus library, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
The acclaimed 2005 memoir The Glass Castle traces the Walls's success as a journalist to the resiliency she learned growing up amid chaos and neglect, as a child of parents suffering from alcoholism and mental illness. The book won the 2005 Elle Reader's Prize and the 2006 American Library Association Alex Award.
Cayuga Reads, a community-wide shared reading program, began in 2006 as a joint project of area schools and libraries. Each year participating schools, organizations, and book lovers throughout the county read a selected title and join in group discussions.
Details on the discussion series are available from Rosemarie Romano or Marc Wildman of the Cayuga Community College library at 315-255-1743, extension 2299 or 2338.
