Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, in honor of New York Army National Guard Specialist Jason E. Von Zerneck, who died on October 2, 2008, in Afghanistan. Specialist Von Zerneck, a member of B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry, and a resident of Kew Gardens, New York, died in a vehicular accident while supporting combat operations in Qara Bagh Karez.
