The Spartans, coached by Jim Jones, completed their inaugural season with a 7-5 record. Two of those losses were against JUCO Champion Catonsville, while two other losses were by only a goal. Their successful first season was rewarded with a trip to Baltimore to compete in The National Junior College Womens Lacrosse Tournament which was held the first weekend in May at Harford CC.
Meghan Mackay from Auburn , the Spartan's co-captain and Center made first Team All American. She was our leader and registered 22 goals, 3 assists, 58 ground balls, and 16 forced turnovers. Meghan was the MVP for the Spartans. Also selected to the first team was Cara Slayton, another Auburn grad. Cara was co-captain and the leading scorer for the Spartans. She registered 30 goals, 5 assists, and 51 ground balls along with 8 forced turnovers. Cara also received the Coaches Award for the Spartans.
Making second team was Cali Bryant from Parish and Abby Prentice from Auburn. Cali played D-wing and scooped 59 ground balls and had 14 forced turnovers. Cali was voted as Best Defender for the 2002 season for the Spartans. Abby led the team in forced turnovers with 16, scored 2 goals, and had 45 ground balls. She was selected Most Versatile player for the Spartans.
