College hosts third annual Kids at Cayuga Summer Camps

DATE: 06-12-2013

In the past 20 years, the number of day camps has grown 90 percent, according to American Camp Association, and a visit to Cayuga Community College Kids at Cayuga Summer Camps will explain why.

Drop by during any day of the four, one-week sessions and young people ages 8 to 12 will be setting up bird feeders along the nature trails, learning the latest hip-hop moves, strategizing at a game of chess, making their own jewelry, or building Lego WeDo robots.

“After two successful years running this camp, we decided to expand the offerings and run camps throughout the month of July,” said Stephanie Schuster, coordinator of community education programs, including the summer camps. “We’ve gathered feedback from campers and their parents every year and have incorporated their suggestions to make this year even better than last.”

Children can register for half or full days of programming throughout the four, one-week sessions, which run July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26, and July 29-August 2. All classes will be held on the College’s Auburn Campus, 197 Franklin St.

Drop off for the 9 a.m. class begins as early as 8 a.m. and pick-up for the classes that end at 4 p.m. runs through 5 p.m. to better accommodate the needs of working parents.

The camps offer a variety of courses in such areas as arts and culture, digital media, performing arts, science and engineering, and fun and games. Registration is required at least one week in advance of the start date.

Parents can register their children online at www.cayuga-cc.edu/communityed; by phone at 315-294-8841; in person at the Office of Community Education and Workforce Development, R209, 197 Franklin Street, Auburn; or by mailing registration and payment to Cayuga Community College, Office of Community Education and Workforce Development, 197 Franklin St., Auburn NY 13021.
