Two Cayuga Students Win SUNY Chancellor's Awards

DATE: 04-04-2005

Cayuga Community College students James Casasanta and Sarah Riester were among 264 students across the 64-campus State University of New York system who received the 2005 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence on March 28 in Albany. Both students are 2003 graduates of Auburn High School, and attend the college's Auburn campus.

Nominees were screened through a rigorous selection process beginning at the campus level and concluding in Albany. Honorees are recognized for academic achievement and excellence in leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, or career achievement.

Saluting the winners, SUNY Chancellor Robert L. King said, “The recipients of this year's Chancellor's Award not only are some of the brightest and hardest working students in SUNY, but have made major contributions to their communities.” The students, he added, represent SUNY's commitment to attracting and nurturing a diverse, intelligent student body. “They are our future,” said King, “and that future is bright.”
