Mother-Son Authors of Sex Change Memoir To Read at Cayuga CC

DATE: 09-18-2008

Hilda Raz and Aaron Raz Link, the mother-and-son authors of the memoir What Becomes You, will give a reading from their book at Cayuga Community College on Monday, October 6. Published in 2008, the book tells the story, from both authors' points of view, of Aaron's transgendered identity and the sex change he completed in 1994 at age 29. Aaron Raz Link, a writer, performing artist, curator, historian of science, and director of the Museum of Nature in Portland, Oregon, was born Sarah. In the first section of the book, he traces his story from early childhood onward. Hilda Raz follows, recounting her experience as a mother whose daughter becomes her son and assumes a new gender identity as a gay man. Raz, a professor of English and women's and gender studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is a published poet and a literary journal editor. Link and Raz's reading will be held in the Auburn campus student lounge on Monday, October 6, at 11:00 a.m., and will be followed by a question-and-answer period.
