FREQUENTLY ASKED SCHOLARSHIP QUESTIONS

Where can I find out what scholarships are available through Cayuga Community College?

Do all scholarships have the same eligibility requirements?

No. Each scholarship has specific requirements that were defined by the donor at the time the scholarship was established. Be sure to read the requirements carefully.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

Once you have a Cayuga student email address, we recommend that you complete the General Scholarship Information Form. This will help the College identify potential matches between you and the scholarships for which you may be eligible, based on their unique criteria.

Submitting a General Scholarship Information Form does not mean that an applicant has applied for any scholarships. After you submit this form, you will receive a confirmation that we received it.

What are the next steps to apply for scholarships?

There are several, but not all, scholarships require that an application-specific to that scholarship be submitted. If an application is required, it will be available for download on the scholarship’s description page. Other scholarships are determined by College Selection Committees and require no action from the student.

How much does it cost to apply?

There is no charge to apply for a scholarship.

Can I apply for more than one scholarship?

You may apply for as many scholarships as you are eligible for. Please read the eligibility details carefully.

What is the deadline for applying?

Check the scholarship description for the deadline.

What students are eligible for a scholarship at Cayuga?

You must be a matriculated student in good standing to be eligible. This means you must be accepted into a degree program through the Admissions Office. You may be a new student or a continuing student. You may also be a transfer student or a re-admit.

Who makes the decisions on scholarship awards?

In general, Selection Committees comprised of Faculty and Staff make recommendations for scholarships in their area of study. Some outside groups award scholarships after careful review of the applications received to compete for the award.

Are all scholarships based on financial need?

No, but several are. Besides financial need, some scholarships base selection on academic merit, program of study, or affiliations, for example. The CCC Alumni Scholarship awards up to 6 scholarships annually to children and grandchildren of Cayuga graduates.

How will I know I’ve been awarded a scholarship?

Applicants will be notified by mail when they have been selected to receive a scholarship. The mailing will include a student contract that must be signed and returned within a certain number of days, indicating the student accepts the conditions of the scholarship.

What happens after I accept the scholarship?

The letter you receive about the scholarship may include contact information for the scholarship’s donor. If so, you will need to submit a short thank you note to that person. The College may ask you for a testimonial to be included in a future Foundation publication.

What expenses will a scholarship cover?

Typically, scholarship awards help pay for tuition. Some may also cover fees and books.

Will a scholarship meet the entire cost of my education?

Most of our scholarships are intended to provide partial support. Work with the Financial Services Office to look into other resources such as federal grants, loans, and work-study awards.

If I receive a scholarship for one year, will I automatically receive an award the following year?

The majority of our scholarships are not renewable. Read the scholarship description for further information.
