“Cayuga Community College recognizes and encourages Credit for Prior Learning as a valid way for students to document college-level learning outside traditional college coursework.”

PUBLISHED EXAMS

Cayuga Community College allows transfer credit for Advanced Placement Exams and College Level Examination Program Exams. See Transfer Policy for guidance and Score Equivalencies.

CHALLENGE EXAMS

If there are no nationally recognized exams that fit the course description, departmental challenge exams may be offered for transfer credit at the discretion of the department. Challenge exams are defined as exams that a student may take to challenge a specific course by demonstrating competency in all the learning outcomes of the course. Complete the inquiry form for further information.

PROFESSIONAL AND WORKFORCE TRAINING

Students may earn credit for professional training and workforce training by documenting successful completion of programs evaluated by third party reviewers such as the American Council on Education, National College Credit Recommendation Service and the American Army Registry Transcripts. Acceptance of certifications or licenses are allowed if they have been assessed by Cayuga Community College to meet the depth and rigor of the student learning outcomes associated with currently offered Cayuga Community College courses.

MILITARY TRANSCRIPTS

Student veterans and active-duty military may earn academic credit from military training documented in American Army Registry Transcripts (AARTS) and Joint Military Transcripts, from the Community College of the Air Force and the Coast Guard institute, or a DD-214 form. See Veteran’s Benefits.

REQUIREMENTS

Credit will only be granted if the reviewed credits are for courses matching current degree requirements for the program in which the student is currently matriculating. Each CPL method by which Cayuga Community College accepts credits has an individual, detailed policy. Some degree programs may have more stringent requirements and students should consult with the CPL coordinator or designee prior to pursuing a CPL method for acquiring credit.

The number of credits awarded is based on the transfer policy stated in the Cayuga Community College course catalog. See the Credit for Prior Learning Course Equivalencies table for more information.
