COURSE DESCRIPTION
Recommended background: GEOL 101 or high school earth science. General survey of the basic principles of historical geology, focusing on the sequence of events and geologic forces influencing the formation of the earth and the evolution of life forms. Topics include plate tectonics, sedimentation, stratigraphy, evolution, and paleontology. Laboratory exercises focus on evolution, regional and local strata, stratigraphy, geologic maps, fossil identification and collection.
