COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces students to Native American literature from oral tradition to contemporary writers tracing the development of individual tribal identities involving race, class, and gender. The course will follow the development of myth and legend into a distinctive Native American literary form that addresses the dynamics of power, privilege, oppression. The course will cover Native American culture and history as it pertains to each reading.
