EOP STEM Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION:
DEPARTMENT: EOP
APPOINTMENT: Temporary, part-time grant-funded through July 2026. Position is contingent on annual grant renewal.
LOCATION: Auburn campus
Under the general direction of the Director of the Educational Opportunity Program, at Cayuga Community College, the STEM Specialist is responsible for providing academic support for specific STEM courses to students of the Program, pursuing STEM Pathways to improve students; academic outcomes and increase their persistence, academic success and retention.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential Functions:
- Provide academic support (I.e., tutoring, test preparation, study skill workshops/seminars) to EOP students taking STEM courses and pursuing STEM pathways.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to EOP students pursuing STEM pathways.
- Development of STEM-related programming to assist students in the development of competencies in STEM education.
- Research national trends, guiding principles and best practices in STEM strategies/learning and communicate information to the EOP Director, EOP Coach, and students of the Program.
- Analyze student achievement data to inform decision making.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff and faculty.
- Create a learning climate that will foster the goals and objectives of EOP, regarding student persistence, success and retention of EOP students in STEM educational pathways.
- Meet bi-weekly with EOP Director to address concerns or needs associated with providing STEM-related academic support.
- Keep accurate, detailed tutoring records and submission of time sheets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications:
- Earned Bachelor’s degree in STEM-related field (with demonstrated mathematical aptitude) from an accredited college/university.
- Have a minimum of three years of experience working with diverse student populations in a high school/college setting.
- Possess strong interpersonal/intrapersonal, communication, and organization skills.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, and facilitating engaging and culturally responsive face-to-face and online academic support experiences (i.e., tutoring sessions, study skills workshops/seminars).
- Demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning,Culturally Responsive Teaching and Blended Learning in mathematics and science teaching.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Docs.
- Possess a general understanding of the EOP, its goals, and its mission.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned Master’s degree in STEM-related field from an accredited college/university.
- Teaching Certification/Credential.
- Have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with diverse student populations at the college level.
- Knowledge if STEAM learning structures, guiding principles and pedagogical practices in STEM - related programs
- Identify, vet and coordinate the inventory, and maintenance of instructional materials for Math and STEM Curriculum and other necessary resources.
- Expertise in analyzing student data (and observing student behaviors during sessions) using results to adjust techniques used in the provision of academic supports.
- Bilingual (Speaks both English and Spanish)
COMPENSATION:
$25.00-$28.00 per hour depending on experience.
This is a 10-month position that works while classes are in session
Part time hours not to exceed 20 hours per week
