Director of IT Projects / Senior Programmer

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

DEPARTMENT:      Information Technology

APPOINTMENT:    12 Months       (Administrative/Professional, Grade 7)

REPORTS TO:         Dean of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer (CIO)

Under the direction of the CIO, the Director of IT Projects/Senior Programmer is primarily responsible for management of the Banner programming team and programming work related to the development, implementation and maintenance of the College’s enterprise systems ecosystem.  This position also collaborates with the CIO to track and assist in the management of IT projects across the College.  May require some after hours or weekend hours during major upgrades or emergency situations.

      

REQUIREMENTS:

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Directly supervise Banner Support Specialists, Banner Functional Support Specialists, Enterprise System Integrators, and other programming positions.
  2. Assist the CIO with management of IT projects, including tracking, scheduling, prioritization, and organization of resources.
  3. Support the maintenance of Ellucian Banner Course Modules and enterprise-level services and related integrations, in collaboration with the rest of the Banner team.
  4. Provide support and test remote database administration (DBA).
  5. Provide supplemental training, advice and information to technical and functional personnel within the college as needed.
  6. Maintain skills in new Banner releases.
  7. Document system configurations, reports, programs, and procedures related to general functions.
  8. Other relevant duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 3 years of programming and analytical experience supporting computing users in a networked environment.
  • Supervisory experience
  • High-level project management experience
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner products preferred.
  • Experience in Windows and Linux or UNIX operating systems preferred.
  • Application development experience using SQL, PL/SQL, C, Perl, HTML, Java, or similar programming languages.
  • Understanding of the security issues involved in maintaining and safeguarding institutional data.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, research and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation and the ability to work with a diverse group of people in a collegiate environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly and reasonably in a demanding work environment subject to a variety of pressures and constraints.

COMPENSATION:

  • $64,282-$79,817 Depending on qualifications
  • Excellent Benefits and leave time. 
  • The Director of IT Projects/Senior Programmer position may be eligible for partial remote work after 3-months of employment. The successful candidate must reside in NYS and be on campus a portion of each week.
