Distance Learning Coordinator
JOB DESCRIPTION:
DEPARTMENT: Office of Distance Learning
APPOINTMENT: 12 Months Administrative Professional Group, Grade 5
SUMMARY:
The Distance Learning Coordinator oversees the creation of resources, training, and communication to maximize the effectiveness of distance learning and web-enhanced courses and programs. This includes supporting faculty in the effective use of technology for instructional purposes in fully online, hybrid, web-enhanced, and other distance learning modalities; the creation of resources to support the onboarding, training, and support of distance learning students; management and assessment of distance learning related technologies; and coordination of distance learning resources with internal and external partners.
REQUIREMENTS:
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, design, develop, implement and evaluate distance learning focused development activities and resources for instructors and students.
- Advise instructors on the appropriate instructional uses of technology and tools and the selection and design of appropriate pedagogical strategies for distance courses and programs.
- Assist students with technical issues related to distance education and web-enhanced courses.
- Research and evaluate new instructional tools and technologies for potential adoption.
- Act as liaison to SUNY Online and any other outside distance learning-related technology providers. This includes
- Scheduling maintenance and upgrades to distance learning systems.
- Participation in SUNY-wide planning meetings.
- Assisting the Accessible EIT Purchasing Review Committee in testing distance learning systems for accessibility.
- Ensuring Cayuga course listings are kept up-to-date on the SUNY Online website.
- Updating campus contact info with SUNY Online
- Act as OER Coordinator, overseeing the selection of OER materials and the implementation of sustainability strategies for OER initiatives and assisting faculty with the design and implementation of OER materials.
- Collaborate with Academic and Student Support areas, such as the Learning Commons, Admissions, and Information Technology, to support distance learning related needs, including technology support, reasonable accommodations and training for support staff.
- Coordinate with the Centers for Student Engagement and Academic Advisement to provide and support advisement to online students.
- Collect, analyze, and report data relating to Distance Learning in collaboration with the office of Institutional Research and Planning.
- Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design or a related field and at least 2 years’ experience in teaching or training; experience with Learning Management Systems, such as Brightspace; knowledge of instructional design theories.

A Bachelor’s degree in combination with equivalent and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of Master’s degree requirements.
Teaching or training experience in higher education, experience with faculty professional development, at least one year experience as an administrator in higher education preferred

COMPENSATION:
Minimum $53,142 / year
Maximum $64,225 /year
