CONFORMANCE STATUS
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Cayuga Community College is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
HOW ARE WE DOING?
Cayuga Community College assessed the accessibility of our website by the following approaches:
- Self-evaluation
- External evaluation
- Third-party web scanning service for quality control and accessibility monitoring, which reports any compliance issues
We’re working hard to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility, but we realize some areas still need improving. Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Cayuga Community College website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. ADDITIONAL ACCESSIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS
REAL-TIME CAPTIONING FOR WEB-BASED EVENTS
Cayuga Community College may also make available the use of real-time captioning for any web-based or remote events (e.g., Zoom, YouTube Live, etc.), in addition to face-to-face events. Some factors determine whether or not a web-based event requires real-time captioning.
An open event, where the event is public-facing with no prior registration required, will require real-time captioning. A closed event, where the event is only available to participants who have registered before the event taking place (i.e., through an RSVP page), does not require real-time captioning if no participant requests an accommodation.
For closed events, the Event Access Statement should be placed on the registration page. Having an Event Access Statement ensures you are planning an inclusive event by inviting participants to request accommodations, including real-time captioning.
To request real-time captioning for your Cayuga event, complete the Event RTC Request Form and include the following information in the notes section:
- Zoom link (or let us know you’ll follow up with the link when it is ready)
- Format: is it a Zoom meeting, Zoom webinar, streamed to YouTube Live, etc.?
- A description of the event. You may also include a link to the event website that provides more information about the event.
Before the event, the real-time captioner will need:
- Access the event, such as Zoom link and passcode, or social media account information
- If the event is set up as a webinar, please make the captioner a co-host to ensure they can access the Zoom event to communicate with the event hosts before the event opens to participants
- Any prep material to prepare for their work, including a schedule, speaker outline or scripts, names of people to be recognized (such as graduates, honorees, and award recipients), and any specialized terminology related to the subject matter of the event/expected to be used during the event.
