MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chief Diversity Officer provides leadership of college-wide efforts to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion as part of the College mission, vision, and values. This role is responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that create a campus culture which embraces diversity and inclusion. The Chief Diversity Officer serves as the subject matter expert, providing guidance on college policy, process, and programs to ensure that the campus commitment to diversity is clear and evident at the highest levels of and across the institution.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Provide leadership for the implementation, revision, and assessment of the College diversity strategic plan in order to meet institutional aspirations;
- Promote a culture of student learning and development and cultivate creative approaches to providing student services, programs, and initiatives;
- Develop and lead a College Diversity Council;
- Participate in, and contribute to, SUNY-wide initiatives, ensuring compliance with system-wide efforts, policies, etc;
- Develop and implement DEI programming, workshops and training for employees, students, and community members (where appropriate);
- Expand and enhance campus diversity and inclusion programming to ensure broad participation;
- Collaborate with colleagues in Academic Affairs and faculty members to enhance and develop the vision, direction, and actualization of an inclusive co-curricular learning environment;
- Create extended community partnerships to support the needs of diverse students and to serve as resources in times of crises;
- Counsel, advise, and consult with students, faculty, staff and alumni individually and collectively to embrace the importance of building an inclusive, appreciative, and welcoming environment.
- Act as point of contact for student grievances related to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Work with Human Resources staff and other functional area supervisors to achieve a balance of representation in faculty, staff, and students consistent with institutional goals;
- Strengthen data collection relative to diversity and inclusion consistent with the broadest definition of the term;
- Oversee the development and execution of campus climate surveys; monitor campus climate and national trends relevant to diversity and provide responsive leadership;
- Maintains knowledge of and ensures compliance with federal, state local laws, and SUNY regulations;
- Identify and celebrate instances where diversity and inclusiveness meet or exceed the College’s diversity and inclusiveness objectives;
- Perform additional projects and other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline required; doctorate preferred
- 3 years of experience in higher education; preferred community college experience
- Experience working with diversity and equity programs.
- Experience in student life areas such as residence life, student activities, counseling/advising
- Experience in a leadership role, preferred experience as a direct supervisor

$70,000 / year
