Students in Cayuga’s Nursing program learn the theoretical knowledge and clinical skills needed to provide nursing care for individuals throughout their lifespan. The program emphasizes professional standards, communication, clinical judgments formed through evidence-based practice, and caring behaviors.

In the Nursing field, you can:

HIGH SCHOOL

To prepare for college, focus on developing your critical thinking and communication skills while also dedicating time to biology, chemistry, and basic algebra courses.

Communication is indispensable for careers in Nursing, a field in which professionals must clearly express essential information to patients and families, as well as members of your healthcare team. To best prepare for your career in Nursing, develop your oral and written communication skills while also taking as many science-based courses as possible. This will help you form a solid foundation for the classes you’ll take at Cayuga.

People who work in Nursing need to:

  • Develop strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Relate to the experiences and emotions of others
  • Show respect and understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives

MATH

  • Algebra I final course grade of 90 OR aim to complete Algebra II final course grade of 70 or higher (includes average of Algebra IIa & Algebra IIb)

SCIENCE

  • Living Environment final course grade of 70 or higher or plan to pass Cayuga’s BIO 100 or 101 with a 70 or higher before graduating from high school
  • Regents Chemistry final course grade of 70 or higher
  • Need some more time in Science? Plan to pass Cayuga’s CHEM 100 or 103 with a 70 or higher before graduating from high school

LANGUAGE

  • Spanish classes throughout high school strongly suggested for the Nursing program

EARN YOUR BACHELOR OF SCIENCE

Cayuga’s Nursing program puts you in a position to pursue your goal of caring for patients and their families. To help students identify transfer possibilities, the college has agreements with 4-year institutions allowing you to transfer all your Cayuga credits. This supports your progress toward a bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field.

All nurses must complete their BSN within 10 years of graduating from Cayuga and passing NCLEX (Nursing boards).
