This pathway is for students who are passionate about a career in the field of Studio Art & Design and want to use their creativity and artistic skills to make an impact on the world.

Students learn the elements and principles of art and design, contemporary art practices, and how to apply what they learn in their careers. They are encouraged to cultivate their artistic voice by refining their technical skills, conceptual development, and experimentation.

Cayuga’s Studio Art and Design program is designed for students planning to transfer after graduating who are passionate about a career where they can pursue their artistic vision.

In the Studio Art and Design field, you can:

HIGH SCHOOL

Focus on developing your critical thinking and communication skills while experimenting with artistic materials and techniques to explore your creative vision.

Critical thinking and strong communication skills – through artistic platforms as well as verbal and written communications – are essential for Studio Art and Design careers. To enhance these skills, develop your craft and your writing ability while learning how to use and discuss the elements of art and principles of design. Also, being college-ready in English and Math will save you time and money.

People who work in the Arts need to:

    li>Be curious, pay attention, and seek inspiration by developing strong observation skills
  • Learn slow-looking to help you notice more and understand artwork
  • Experiment to develop your creative voice
  • Develop critical thinking and communication skills
  • Hone your technical skills and experiment with the materials and techniques

ENGLISH

  • 3-year high school English course average of 80 or higher

MATH

  • Algebra I final course grade of 90 OR aim to complete Algebra II final course grade of 70 or higher (includes average of Algebra IIa & Algebra IIb)

Department of Art and Design, Bachelor of Art

Studio Art, Illustration, Graphic Design, and Interactive Design majors

At Oswego, students can elect degree programs that include the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in art, with tracks in studio art, art history, graphic design, illustration, and interaction design.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in studio art has two tracks students can choose from, one in fine arts and one in illustration. The department also offers BFA degrees in graphic design and interaction design. Students earning a BFA degree can stay for the master's in art teaching (MAT) in art education. There is also the opportunity to earn a minor in art, art history, photography, graphic design, illustration, museum studies, arts management, or expressive arts therapy.
