Wiseman Named New Student Trustee at Cayuga
New Cayuga Community College Student Trustee Grace Wiseman is excited to continue representing her fellow students after spending her first year at the College as the secretary and then president of the Student Government Organization (SGO).
Entering her second year at Cayuga, Wiseman is currently spending her summer interning with the City of Auburn’s Office of Planning & Economic Development and is ready to begin her term on Cayuga’s Board of Trustees. She was formally sworn-in as the student trustee at Thursday’s Board of Trustees meeting.
“I’m someone who always enjoys new experiences, so I’m looking forward to working with the trustees. As a member of Cayuga’s Student Government Organization last year, I know the importance of being available to students, listening to their concerns and answering their questions. I’m going to work hard and continue that as the student trustee,” she said.
Wiseman graduated from the Auburn Enlarged City School District in 2021 and enrolled at Cayuga, where she immediately became a fixture on-campus. She starred in Harlequin Productions’ Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 shows, and was the secretary for Cayuga’s SGO in the fall. In the Spring 2022 semester, she was president of SGO.
Wiseman is currently majoring in Liberal Arts and Sciences: Humanities and Social Sciences, and is planning on transferring to a four-year institution to study public administration after earning her degree from Cayuga.
As the new student trustee, Wiseman is looking forward to working as a liaison between the trustees and students, and also supporting Cayuga’s ongoing process of returning to on-campus classes and events.
“I’m very interested in trying to bring more people back to campus and to have more students enjoying events on-campus. Our SGO worked toward that goal last year, and it’s something I’d like to keep working on this year,” she said.
Her long-term goal is a career in city government, where she’s currently gaining valuable experience with the Office of Planning & Economic Development. Wiseman said she’s working with senior members of the department to support human service agencies, administer block grants and assist with park projects.
Cayuga President Dr. Brian Durant and Board of Trustees Chair Anthony Franceschelli welcomed Wiseman to the Board of Trustees and said they are excited to work with her this year.
“Grace made an immediate impact last year at Cayuga through her work with Student Government and her performances with Harlequin Productions, so I’m confident she’ll bring the same enthusiasm to her new role,” said Dr. Durant. “Her dedication to representing our students and voicing their ideas will make her an excellent addition to our Board of Trustees.”
“Grace embodies what makes our Cayuga students special — a passion for the well-being of their community, commitment in the classroom and a genuine interest in improving the world around them,” said Franceschelli. “Our Board of Trustees is excited to hear her ideas on how Cayuga can continue moving forward this year.”
